After finishing school, I left my home country of Australia and went to South Africa for a gap year. While I was there I did some studies with YWAM. After my initial training (DTS) I felt that God wanted me to stay longer and formally study the Bible. That decision to stay changed my life. It started a longing to know more and more about the bible and know it as best as I possibly can.
After Abraham arrived in the Promised Land, within the story, as told in genesis, the first thing he does is leave. While he is away things go wrong, but God rescues him and gets him back on track (Gen 12:10-20). Abraham was supposed to stay within the boundaries God had given him. He chose to leave them and was reprimanded for it (Gen 12:18-19).
Later we see that Abraham has learnt his lesson. When he was trying to find a wife for the promised son Isaac, he made sure that Isaac was not to leave the Promised Land (Gen 24:6-8). He knew that it was right for him and his son to stay within the prescribed boundaries that God had given him.
This leaves me thinking about what boundaries God has given me. They are not physical boundaries like Abraham. They are moral boundaries. I know at times that I’ve gone beyond those boundaries, been reprimanded and yet enjoyed God’s blessings. This leaves me praying that the Holy Spirit will open my eyes when I stray past those boundaries.
